I think it's a good idea. Kids will be able to focus more on their studies, and the schools will be able to focus on the different learning patterns of girls vs. boys. Studies show that girls will not do as well in math and science because they are intimidated in class. Without that pressure, girls are more likely to excel. The same things goes for boys and English.

Of course, boys and girls could still have lunch together or social events together, that way they can still learn about social interactions. Don't forget that the point of school is to learn.

The argument has always been that separating the genders during the High School years helps reduce sexual tension and removes a certain social roadblock to learning. It may make more focused students, say , if the boys we're worried about what the girls thought of them in class, or the girls weren't concerned about how their clothes attracted a certain boy...

Parochial schools have been working under this pretext for many decades and have some good success.

according to recent media i have seen on tv and read in magazines it seems to help. school districts that had low test scores saw iprovemnt when they separated the sexes in public schools.

and private schools that are all boy or al girl of course have higher test scores than average, but that could be due to the smaller class sizes and more personal attention given in private schools.

i think children get distracted in school by many things dealing with realtionships (platonic and romantic), removing one big distraction that can cause a lot of drama sounds like a good idea.

it really affects the minds of teens a lot because they get too attracted to the opposite sex and get more involved with them when they're already outside the school campus..in one all-girls school here, lots of them get involved in teenage pragnancy because whenever they see a boy, even though he's not so cute, they get easily attracted, or easily intimidated, it is so not a good idea to seperate girls from boys. in normal schools, schoolmates treat each other as childhood friends..but in those kinda schools, they seem to look at the opposite sex as a mate rather than a friend.. one friend of mine who went to an all boys school even said that they became so curious about girls that almost all of them has a crush on their not so pretty at all teacher!..that's what you get when parents try tooo hard to protect their children..haha..

When you seperate boys and girls, I don't think that they will be socially ready in the "real world" after school. They need to communicate with peers and what not, at a younger age.

I go to one, and it is one less thing to worry about during school, and then we all meet up in the town with girls from the girls school after scule, and all get smashed at the weekend, brilliant fun, lolz, but next year we can have lessons at either school becasue it will be the sixth form

Kids need to learn how to relate to the opposite sex. While the primary function of schools are to provide a general education, there are many other functions that the school system serves.

They do it in the middle school in my home town. They say that girls do better when boys aren't there to distract them. Some girls get nervous talking in front of boys at that age. I hope this helps.

Girls and Boys have fundamental brain differences that can result in differences in learning style, so in some cases it may be beneficial to separate them.

However, the question is, does that outweigh the social problems it causes?

Works out better for girls but worse for boys. Girls can concentrate better and are more productive in lessons without boys, but the opposite is true for boys, so I say it's better to keep them mixed.
