Some do, some don't. Depends on the person, their tolerance for pain and where on the body the tattoo is.

I have several and some hurt more than others. I can usually just tune it out now unless the artist hits a really sensative spot.

Inner right ankle: Rose on a vine
Lower abs, right side: Rose
navel: ring of ivy with small dragon
lower back (pre-"tramp-stamp" BS): Roses/rosebuds on vine
right shoulderblade (not finished): four kanji - still working on the background

It all depends on what part of the body. Meaty areas such as arms, legs, etc.. don't hurt as much. Spots like the small of your back, ankle, and other areas that have thin muscle coverage hurts more. It hurts like a small pin prick but over and over, take a safty pin and lightly poke your self in the area that you want your tattoo. This is just an example but gives you an idea of what it's like. The pain does go away very fast, couple secs or so, all depends on your pain tolerance.

It's true that everyone has a different threshold of pain. What one person considers not painful at all could be devastating to another. Some people describe the feeling as a "hot scratch". Some have said it was "annoying". Most say it was not nearly as bad as they feared. But there is a little more than pain alone to consider when getting a tattoo.

They do hurt but it really all depends on your tolerance for pain. It sort of fells like getting pricked by a needle over and over in the same area. After a while it may get numb. If you get on in an area that is on a bone it may hurt even more. BUT remember a tattoo is for life so make sure if you get one its something you can live with.

It all depends where you have the tattoo done. Ive got 4. 1 on each arm, 1 on my right calf and 1 on my chest. The chest hurt the most, but it really all depends on the pain thresh-hold as well.

Hope this helps

I really don't know if they hurt but I believe it depends on where you are wanting a tattoo placed. I have heard different people say that women can tolerate the pain more than a man because many women go through childbirth. If you have gone through childbirth then you should be able to tolerate the pain from getting a tattoo.

It really hurts, it hurts when you do the tattoo close to the bones
thats when it hurts! But anyone can handle it, so if you want it just take the pain and then take care of your tattoo the first 2 weeks and then you're done.

ok i have 17 tattoos, the ones that are done over meaty part of body doesnt hurt as much(tho there is pain involved) they hurt
less than on boney part of body.
my sore spots were over my shoulder blades.
belly button and below, thighs, under arms.

there is a story or a point in my life for each tattoo stands for,
all have meaning to me. the names i have on me, are my family.
i only have two lovers names on me, and both are dear to me so they wont be removed.

do not get a tattoo then regret it later, its hurts to be removed,
laser or acid to remove them, which hurts beyond pain.
so put some thought into it.

tatttoos are additive yes, but they are self expressive to each individual.

i have 14 tattoos
they all hurt to a degree
the pain is intermitant it only lasts 5 to 10 seconds at at time (thats when the artist is actually putting the needle in you) then he reloads his gun with ink and starts again.
You can do it.
I've seen women with tattoos in the most sensitive of places, so it can be done, just grit your teeth and do it
