It is minus 30 here today and as I was preparing for work this morning I noticed that behind my dresser there was a frozen puddle on the floor next to the wall. The other side of the wall is outside and during the summer actually had water dripping down it via the overhead soffit and corner of house directly at that wall, until I went up on the roof and put black stuff down and the leak was no longer visible. Does this mean that it is still leaking, or the wall actually has or had water between it, and it leaked down and froze? Or could it be old water that froze in there? The whole wall in that area is stone cold..I am a single female ( and poor) small homeowner, who is very worried..I cannot afford amy major repairs...anyone have a solution or any diagnostics?Do I have to tear down the wall, or roof? Full of snow.. HELP-Please and Thanks..

Despite you having given a detailed description, its hard to say for sure without seeing it.

It is possibly the the repairs have failed and you have a new leak.

But since you said the wall is very cold, and obviously as you said the puddle was frozen in the house! - I'd say it may also be condensation from the moisture already in your home.

Repairs would be to verify if the roof patch was intact. Then you are in need of some serious insulation in the walls/floor and possibly ceiling with careful placement of a suitable vapor barrier.

The savings from your heating should eaisly repay this expense in only a few years. Maybe even one year if you've got ice forming in your bedroom! (You mentioned it was behind your dresser.)

Stormy,Hi, I don't know where you live, but, you should move to a warmer climate,Brrrr. That aside, You need a roof. I'll bet you have an ICE DAM on your roof that is backing water up, as it melts from the sun, and it is leaking through the roof into the wall. If, as you say, it is an ongoing problem, your wall is soaked inside. This creates mold and rot within the wall. Not healthy.! There is little that you can do this time of year.I don't know what the hell to tell you.!! I understand you can't afford major repairs, but, you are in dire need of a roof and tearing out the wall. You also need some insulation in that house..If you have some friends that are carpenters that can roof, I'd be calling them..Like I said, I don't know where you live. In a lot of the New England states the towns have GRANTS for people who can not afford to maintain a safe and sanitary home. If you have that sort of an opportunity, jump on it. I don't know what town department you would contact.. Sniff around and ask questions, You need help. NOW.!! Wish I had better news for you..!! Good luck
