Portfilio Ideas?

Question

What are some ideas to put in a Graphic Design Portfolio? Please tell me anything that you think I could design, I am going to use the ideas as a "job" and see how well I can create the ideas I receive.

I have a bunch of original ideas already included. I just wanted to see what else I could add, from people ideas.

One of the things I love doing as a graphic designer (I do website design mainly) is to look through local websites (found via a local city search or whatnot) and pick some for small businesses that I think I could improve upon.

I do a full mockup of their first page (their index.html or whatever it might be) - specifically using their information they provided on their website. Then you have one portfolio piece right there.

Even better is the fact that you can present that image to that business in hopes of contracting a freelance position to do their website (allowing you to add a full website to your portfolio as well as some money in your pocket).

You should put any original images you created, any images you may have photoshop'd, and newletters/publications you designed, webpages, t-shirts, etc. Further, if any of those images, etc have been published, information regarding the publication information (like a web address) should be included. I would also include other art work, like photographs, paintings, drawings or comics you have done, just to show your versatility as a designer.

Try creating some original logo ideas, photo retouching (before and after) and some ideas for ads, magazine covers, and CD/DVD label designs. Maybe some fashion layouts too. Try and be as versaltile as possible, while showing your skills.
