scenario is that there is a girl with XY chromosomes and she's wondering why she's not having periods....

being a doctor you knw that she does not have ovaries because it requires XX chromosomes for ovaries to develop how would you explain to her that she has XY chromosomes instead of XX chromosomes...

or you might not want to explain this to her and just tell her that there is a genetic disorder in her and just avoid telling her something horrible and prevent further explaination....

pls give me a suggestion....

explain me your point of view and do not disregard future or present consequences if you lie to her or even if you tell her the truth...

thanx

Since she's old enough to have periods, I suspect she's old enough to be told what exactly her problem is (I assume you're talking about AIS here, and I have yet to meet an AIS woman who was thrilled to be lied to by her clinician). Explain to her in simple terms that, while she was developing in the womb, something happened that made her body insensitive to the male hormones. Because of this, she has male chromosomes but developed a female body. Explain the effects of this (infertility, lack of menses) and reassure her that chromosomes are not the same thing as identity. She might appreciate information about AIS support organizations, either online or local.

This is probably one of the sucky things about being a doctor but it needs to be done.

since you said girl, i assume she is young. maybe talk to the parents and explain to them and invite them into the room as you explain to her. i definitely would not lie to her even if thats what the parents want to do. she has to live with this for the rest of her life and should know whats happening in her body. plus, if you lie, one day she will go to another doctor who will find what you found, and it will fall on your reputation either making you look like a liar or a bad doctor for missing this. let her know delicately with some support.

You need to tell her the whole truth and nothing but the truth, only way unfortunately its not easy but the only way to do it and live with yourself you cant lie about it
