I seem to recall a time when Bush was an isolationist President. He failed to sign up to environmental agreements and the international courts. He even told the troops in Kosovo that the aim was to get them home as soon as possible.
Then came 9/11 and everything changed. He changed. He had to, there was no other choice and I cannot blame him for that.
The invasion of Afghanistan seemed a natural and acceptable reaction: the deaths of 3000 people had to avenged and everything pointed to Bin Laden and his terrorist training camps. (Think of it as similar to the attack of Pearl Harbor and the invasion of Japan.)
Where I think Bush went wrong was the invasion of Iraq: there were no weapons of mass destruction and no connection to 9/11. (That would be like invading Mongolia on the claim that it too contributed to the attack on Pearl Harbor.)
It's true that the invasions got rid of the Taliban and Saddam Hussein but what are two dictatorial regimes in a continent which is full of them?
The resulting chaos and mismanagement in Iraq has just added to the critical view of Bush and the US.
Furthermore he has done almost nothing about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Solve that and you solve half the problems in the Middle East.
Bush has the means and power to do the right thing, the problem is he seems to do everything he thinks he should do but which others think he shouldn't.

I'm Italian and I still love you.
However I must say that lately it seems that the USA have become too scared of people from other countries.I understand the terrorism alert is almost always high after 9/11 but you cannot treat everybody as if they were against you and be afraid of allowing them into your land. The UK suffered from a similar episode in July 2005 but they didn't set up such strict rules like yours for those who wish to visit your country.
I wanted in the past to come there but I put it off because of that and hoping things will turn into easier procedures.

It's not President Bush . The picture is much bigger than that . We are living in unprecedented times and we, the USA have always been the world's moral leader . The moral decline of other countries and ours is the real reason . And President Bush is not about to buckle to the selfish, self-centered, and irresponsible ways of the heathen !!! And thank the Lord above for that !!

Bush is a pain for sure but i like Americans and all the American people that i have met have been warm and sincere. However from some of the questions and answers that i see on YA it seems that a lot of people do dislike the Americans. Some of it is to do with bush foreign policies and also there is a lot of jealousy

Bush is not really popular...people in other countries are intelligent enough and can differentiate the president from the country isetlf. America is not disliked...BUSH is.
He's giving the country a BAD image..that#s all.
now if you voted for Bush...that might be a different story...i wouldn't voice it out loud for sure...(saying that I wouldn't--anyone of course can if they strongly believe in it). Freech speech after all....

The hate of America started the moment we became the #1 super power and it has nothing to do with any president in particular but the hate of the US democrats of anyone that doesn't share their ideas has always been the worse of all.
I'm not repub and I didn't vote for Bush but we did get the better od the two that ran for the job.

If the rest of the world disliked us, millions of people wouldn't risk their lives to come here every year.
Foreign leaders hate us because we're richer as a nation and on a per capita basis than their countries are, because the reason we're richer is we have a freer economic system, and because they stubbornly refuse to accept this and insist on running their economies with less freedom and then somehow blaming us and calling us selfish when we produce and consume more than they do.

Well, the world was our friend right after 9/11, but all the goodwill has pretty much disappeared since our president has adopted policies (or in the case of the Kyoto treaty, not adopt) that not many people, including Americans, like. That and he has a way of pissing countries off.

You can go back further in history, as to why SOME not all countries dislikes America, and what the principles behind our foreign policies are.

You know what. I think that people hate the U.S. and the president because Alec Baldwin and George Clooney tell them too. I don't give a rats a.ss what anyone thinks though. They will love us when they need us. Always been that way, always will.
