To all the people who answered this question negatively, Liverpool is the fastest-growing city in the UK, has the only branch of Coutts (the Queen's bank) outside of London - to serve the growing number of millionnaires who are flocking to set-up home in and around the Liverpool area - people from the South are migrating north to this city for the better quality of life and the new apartments that are being built here are selling faster and for higher prices than almost anywhere else in the UK.

Having travelled extensively around the world, if you ask any foreigner to name a city in England other than the capital, London, I guarantee it will be Liverpool - albeit because of the Beatles and the superb football teams and the superb pubs, clubs and restaurants which are packed every weekend with more accents than you can count.

Liverpool has more listed buildings than any other UK city (London being the accepted exception) with world-class museums and art galleries and unrivalled architecture.

Marconi transmitted the first radio message ever in Abercromby Square in . . . oh yes, Liverpool . . . and the atom was first split in Liverpool University.
The most thrilling football match of the last 25 years was won . . . spectacularly . . . by Liverpool, European cup winners for the fifth time, and of course next year 2008 Liverpool is the European capital of culture.
Where do all the doctors and lawyers live? Take your pick: Woolton, Allerton, Aigburth, Crosby, Formby, Prescot, Rainhill . . .

The people who have answered your question, obviously do not know Liverpool. There are plenty of areas in Liverpool where Doctors and Lawyers live. The South of Liverpool e.g. Woolton and Allerton and some parts of Aigburth are good. Like every city there are some rough parts. Also the City Centre is quite popular with new apartments continuously being developed. I hope that is more helpful than some of your other answers.

I used to live near Aigburth as a student and it was really nice. Beautiful old houses with a hint of something grand! It always seemed really exclusive and posh to me (but maybe that's because I was a student!) There were always lots of nice cars parked on the driveways.
