Pfo is right. You can also paste into many programs like Word or Wordpad.

I think, although I'm not sure, that it really did mean to actually print the screen at one time. The keyboard we use (US anyway) is very old, and back in the days before Windows when people used console-type operating systems like DOS, the button did work as you would expect.

One more tip: Just pressing Print Screen get the whole desktop. If you hold down the Alt key when you press it, you only get the active window.

There are two windows ways:

1. Get a third party app which captures the clipboard. There are a lot of free ones and some that cost little.

2. When you press PrtScr the content of the screen is in the clipboard. Paste it into paintbrush or some other bitmap editor (I use photoshop) and print from that.

The 'Print Screen' doesn't really print the screen. It should be called 'Screen Capture' or 'Screenshot'.

What it does, is that it takes a 'picture' of your screen and then you can use it with image programs, like 'Paint'.

Try this...

Press the 'Print Screen' button and then open up the 'Paint' program that comes with Windows. When Paint is open, select 'Edit' from the top toolbar and then select 'Paste'. The picture of your screen is now an image.

Print Screen is misleading. What it does is it takes a screen shot of windows and saves it to the clipboard. Try pressing print screen, then opening paint and hitting ctrl+v. It's not meant for printing from the printer, use ctrl+p to print in most programs.

You can't print automatically, you have to pres it, and then paste the screencap to a photo application, even something as simple as Paint will work...then print from there.
