Walmart is by far less germy than the hospital you just gave birth in. Seriously. And don't even get me started on taking babies to waiting offices full of sick kids.
Now be sure to bundle her up, keep the wind off her face as much as possible (babies can have trouble breathing in the wind) and keep her in a carrier and don't let people touch her face or hands and you will be fine.
Also try to keep your hands as clean as possible.

I was worried too at first to take my daughter to the store but she did all right and she has never got sick and she is 8 1/2 mos old now. Just be a little protective when people come up to her. but I think she will be ok. unless someone is home to stay with her you could leave her at home with that person and you just do the running. and you won't have to take her out.

depending on where you're at and how cold it is i'd wait.. I took mine our right away except for my youngest son because we got a blizzard a few weeks after he was born.. i'd say if its less than freezing I wouldn't unles there isn't a wind chill.. the temp today is about 0 with a windchill of -15 so its not fit out there for an adult let alone a child however if you must go out with them make sure they are bundled up very well, heavy outfit, snowsuit and if possible one of those blankey covers that you can zipper up and it covers the top of the car seat completely for when you're out of the car to keep the wind of their face if not a heavy baby comforter and make sure you have extra blankets in the car incase you break down and have to wait for help..

Well if it is really cold and nasty not for at least 4 to 6 weeks. I took my baby out sooner because the weather was nicer. But you really don't want to take baby out to stores where there are a lot of people especially around cold and flu season.
I would wait.

After leaving the hospital with # 2 my hubby and I went grocery shopping. Don't let anyone touch her that's all. Seeing it's cold cover the carseat with a light blanket. As far as traveling make sure she is bundled up and the car is warmed up first.
Good Luck and don't let things worry you too much.

Its good to take little ones out because exposing them to some germs will help them become immune later. I am not telling you to let her suck on the grocery cart but it will be good for er in the long run. Also all of the light and smells will really get her brain thinking. You should not be stuck inside all winter, just bundle the little one up.

my baby is a little over a month and my pediatritian said that in the flu and winter season you should wait at least two months to take the baby to places like walmart where there are big crowds of people. wait until she is like 8 weeks old.

At 5 days old you both should be home and resting. Can someone go out for you? Or if you have to go can someone babysit for a few minutes. There is no "right" age to go shopping but I think at 5 days old why would you want to go anywhere??

As long as she is bundled up properly take her on little trips..the fresh air will do her good. If you are really worried about other people wait till she's at least 2 weeks old.
