Hey guys, my husband and I are trying for our second child, and I am wondering what are some GREAT ways to tell him, and then my family that Im pregnant. My hubby's in the USCG, and Im far, far away from my family, so I will need to do something extra special for them so that they feel included. What did you do to tell your hubby, family or friends? Have you heard about other women doing something spectacular to share the news? We're a couple with a great sense of humor, so funny things won't offend me!! I really need to do something special for my husband and my family when this time comes!!!!!!!!! Please help me :)

I had an internal ultrasound that clearly showed the entire 11 week old fetus. I scanned the ultrasound images into my computer, uploaded them to www.shutterfly.com and made cards. The cards had our tiny baby on the front and inside I made an invitation. Invited them to come and meet the baby in about 29 weeks. The grandparents were thrilled! I also sent Seegar's to them, delicious chocolate cigars from sees candy. www.sees.com

I took the EPT test while my husband was at work. It was positive so I bought a pink balloon and a blue balloon. I bought each color of balloon because there was no way to know if it was a boy or a girl yet. Poor husband thought I was telling him we were pregnant with twins and just about fainted! I don't recommend the two balloons thing at all for the hubbie.

Best of luck!! Congrats!!

There's a quite good book called "The Good Granny Guide." Should turn up quite easily on a Google search; mail-orderable from lots of places.

That it was such a good read was sort of a side bonus; it was great to give as a gift. Just scribble your due date inside -- or at least some note to make it clear they're doing a fine job with the first (and it does have advice on long-distance grandparenting), and it is not, say, a hint that they are not good grannies -- with a 'congratulations,' and fire it off to the grandmothers.

Grand*father*ing books are less easy to find, but they're out there.

NB: the clerk in one of the bookstores I tried to find a grandparent book in said "You know, I've been running this section (it had quite a large section of kiddie and parenting books) for years, and nobody's ever asked for something like that. The grandparents do come in, but they just want memory books and stuff like that." So -- the little scrapbooky things are out there in abundance, too.

I guess it depends on how long you want to wait to tell.
My family is far away as well and although it may not be that crazy of an idea, I am going to send everyone a copy of my ultra-sound, one where you can really see the baby.

That way they are all included at the same time. Everyone gets the same message.

As for your husband, that's another story.
Good luck, you will come up with something great!

Buy a tshirt for your first child that says "big Brother" or "Big sister" on it & have your little one greet him at the door when he comes home. Or you can put the pregnancy test in a little jewelary box and give it to him as a gift when he opens it VOILA!!! surprise!!! lol so cute.

You could send the grandparents a care package with little baby stuff inside... things like #2 on the way... or something cute to make them feel special although they are so far away!

Family: Funny: send a pkg with a note to call you before they open it (so you can hear their reaction)... put in all the cute baby stuff, onsie, shoes, socks, etc, and then a newborn diaper (because they're cute) and put some fake poop in it (just a piece of paper colored brown, nothing gross) with a note that says, "Are you ready to babysit!!!"

Hubby - well that's kind of special, if he's home, make it special, tell him as or after your making love, I couldn't think of anything more perfect.... but if he's away, then send him a pkg Mama bear, Papa bear, toddler bear, and SURPRISE BABY BEAR!!!

Congrats on your expanding family!!!

I don’t know that you’ll be able to do this, but to tell my girlfriends I bought some on-sale home pregnancy tests (they didn’t now I was trying to get preggers) and as a lark, we all peed on our own stick and then threw them into a paper bag, waited then had a look.

It was an uncomfortable moment for them until I revealed that mine was the positive test. But those are the kind of friends that I could do that with.

Why would you label it either one? It happened on Barry's watch after his administration certified the rig as safe. Barry refused any outside help. It was more important for him to go golfing and have a concert with Paul McCartney. So if you would kindly get back to reality, it is Obama's Oil Spill.

With my husband, it was a little strange. I showed him the digital pregnancy test that said pregnant on it, but because he was sick, he thought I was handing him a thermometer. I had to tell him to look at it closer, before he tried to use it! To tell our family, we had our six year old son tell them, "I'm going to be a big brother!" Their reactions were amazing. They had to repeat what he said before they understood. If your first child is old enough, that may be a way to go to tell your family. Because you're far away from family, I'm sure they'd love a phone call from their grandchild anyway! Good luck and congratulations!

Lets see, when my inlaws were expecting their second child, they but a paper bag (with eyes cut out) on my hubby's head and wrote on the bag, "I'm gonna be a big brother" and sent him into her parent's house. When we found out we were expecting again, we made invitations to the birth and sent them out, sadly, his family didn't get it, lol. On the website, "rockyou.com" you can make a scratcher image (ya know, like you'd scratch a lotto ticket). I took a digital pregnancy test, took a picture of the "pregnant" read out and made a scratcher with that. I emailed that out to my family who lives far away.
