i saw this ad in the paper that said companion caregivers, you attend the elderly in their homes, but you don't need a home health aide certificate.... i was going to get my home health aide certificate but since i saw this ad in the paper i guess i'm not.... do you think it sounds to good to be true? do you think a position has a companion caregiver even exist?

In most cases, having the certification can cover you from a legal stand-point, even if it's not required. Going through the course will always give you insights to do better at whatever you do. If you're just looking for a temporary job while you figure out your career path, it's probably ok to do without the certification, but if it's your life long career, you want to be the best you can be at it. Reputation goes a long way in any industry.

My thought is that you would be eligible for better paying jobs run by more professional, better insured companies if you had the certificate. Just like with baby sittiers there is a range - from the 12 year old who gets 5 bucks to watch their cousin to the CPR certified camp counselor who makes 15 dollars an hour.

yes it is possible to become a caregiver w/o a certificate. You should call the ad and find out the details.

It could be for cooking, paying bills, driving to doctor's appointments, picking up prescriptions, etc.

Yes. caregivers are a part of many people's everyday lives. I would suggest you go on and get your certificate because it will be good to have it though not all people who hire caregivers require it.

If it sounds to good to be true, then it is. Finish with your original plan get your certificate first then seek out a company that requires you to have the certification.

Better have the certificate so even you change your plan later you are ready. But if it's easier for you to try it first then go ahead.Just don't waste time wondering.Get on your feet and good luck!

You can start off without it, I'm sure and do fine, but if you want to make more money, it would be better to work on your degree while you're doing it :).

Sure you would probably do their laundry and help around the house and cook. I would say this is pretty legit♥
