i.e. what options do Israel and Palestine have to resolve this?

A "Palestinian" state will function about as well as Lebanon is right now. It will just be another place for bombers and Jew-haters to gather to plot how to wrest another acre of land from Israel. Besides, "Palestinians" already have a state. It's called Jordan. Before the partition and Israeli independence, no one ever heard of a Palestinian because they don't exist. These are Jordanian Arabs who are partially forced to live in exile by the rest of the Islamic world to use as a "human rights" club against Israel.

i think the israeli idea is that they don't get the west bank, or if they do they only get the bits that israel doesn't want, and they will never get the bits with water. and do you really think that the isaeli government, (as opposed to the people), care if it functions or not.
