Dubai is a lovely country with loads going on. Shopping, spas, golf, watersports, skiing, desert safaris etc. There is however a lot of building work going on just out to sea as they are building the palms.
Dubai has the best duty free shopping in the world and so many places to to shop from the main mall to little souks.
A stay in the desert is mindblowing as the accommodation is out of this world and the service is second to none.
Dubai is no way affected by Iraq most of the middle eastern countries are NOT affected.
If you are flying from the UK choose either Emerites or Virgin flights direct into Dubai. Eithad fly into Abu Dhabi and it is a bus transfer to Dubai which is about an hour.
Ramadam this year will be around September so take this into account as this is a time when the muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

Dubai , one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, is unquestionably the commercial, leisure and sporting capital of the Gulf. International businesses are attracted by the liberal attitude and minimal bureaucracy, visitors enjoy the relaxed, luxurious lifestyle and followers of sport appreciate the world-class events held here. Top golfers from around the world participate in the Desert Classic tournament, while the racing world looks forward annually to the Dubai World Cup, the opening race in the Emirates World Series Championship.
The Creek is both the visual and commercial heart of the city. Dubai's modern development began around the turn of the century with the establishment by local merchants of an entrepôt trade based on this safe, natural anchorage. Now the emirate has a population made up of more than 70 nationalities, bringing a richly cosmopolitan character to the city.
Dubai offers visitors a multitude of attractions, from the mystery of the desert and its sand dunes and surrounding mountain ranges to the five star beaches and hotels to the original Dubai featuring old houses complete with wind towers and contrasting modern high tech buildings and shopping malls. Numerous dhows still sail and trade to other countries and you can experience the activity of the Creek and buildings alongside it by riding on an abra - a water taxi which crosses the Creek from one side to the other. Alternatively, you can rent an abra for your own private tour down the Creek towards Maktoum Bridge and wonder at the contrast of old and modern buildings on the waterfront.

Dubai is Fabulous and if you do go, you must visit the Mall of the Emirates and go Skiing. Duty free is fantastic and so are the people. The war in Iraq is no where near. Enjoy.

You won't even notice the war from Dubai although their port and airport are making loads a money from it. Its very busy, with loads of duty free shopping but huge traffic jams. Watch out for "quiet beach side hotels". I stayed in one that was surounded by 70 high rise construction sites. Think of the construction boom in Benidorm x50.

If you mean Dubai - it's a lovely, chilled place that I would highly recommend (and it is no way affected by the situation in Iraq)
