No, They should not have the right to have an abortion as a form of birth control. I agree for the mothers saftey or a very very ill baby, Incest things like this yes, But not as birth control there are so many other forms or birth control on the market they dont have to end up pregnant in the first place. If they do there are many people who can not have children who would adopt

Virtually all women who become pregnant did so by making a choice to have sex. If they are not prepared to become a parent, they should take the same advice they give to men who don't want to become parents and keep their pants on.
Nearly all abortions are a method of birth control.
Yes, as one answerer said, contraception is birth control but when abortion is used to prevent birth, it is also birth control; the difference is that one prevents conception, the other eliminates a living thing.
Policians make laws governing society and one is how we treate those among us who are helpless so, yes, they have the power to make abortion illegal, except since the SCOTUS has deemed itself the power to create laws, a position not afforded it by neither the constitution nor it's creators, until another SCOTUS rules differently, no laws can be created for or against it. At best, it should be reverted to the states since the tenth amendment states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.". Since abortion is nowhere mentioned in the constitution, it is a states issue, not federal. Any power not expressly granted to the Federal government is reserved for the States or the People. Although this amendment is very liberally interpreted, it is one of the tenets of the Constitution.
In the end, 'abortion on demand' is an irresponsible act forgive irresponsible behavior. If I point a loaded gun in the direction of another and pull the trigger, I realize the liklihood is that I will kill that person. Saying "I didn't mean it, it was an accident" does not absolve my actions in the first place.
If you don't want to become a parent, don't take the risk or at least lessen the chances with contraception; if you do decide to take the risk or if contraception fails, deal with the consequences in an mature, adult and reasonable way by accepting responsiblility for your actions.

I really don't think it should ever be considered as 'birth control', and it's too glib for some young idiot who thinks he knows it all to say 'it's the woman's decision and not some old geezer in a padded chair feeding at the public trough'!
Do you know what an abortion entails? It is the physical destruction of a foetus in the most painful manner possible, by slowly chopping it to bits in the womb. This is so it can be drawn down the uterus in manageable chunks for later disposal.
There's NO DOUBT that the poor wee thing suffers! Of course it does! It is a sensitive little organism that has already started to learn, and the last thing it learns is what excruciating pain is like.
No, it simply isn't birth control for a civilised society, and should only be used as a last resort if the mothers' life is threatened. Surely there must be a more humane way of achieving the result, isn't there?

I think limited abortion is a woman's right but there should be limitations that the medical community clearly understands is not legal such as late term abortion. Understand that there will always be abortions and the debate over legal or illegal does not change that. That is just a forum for people to stroke their egos. For me, the rhetoric from the right drove me to see that some abortion is probably feasible and that the only two people I know who have had abortions were daughters of prominent Pro Life people who went with abortion when it came to their daughters, even though one went on being a vocal Pro Lifer until that fact came out. Kind of a do as I say not as I do kind of guy. Boy, that was ugly.

Since when has any woman used this procedure as birth control? I think you have been brainwashed by the anti abortionists.
It's a procedure no woman takes lightly, but if done legally in a clinic (on the NHS in this country) the risks are very low. The government may be trying to monitor our movements and our thoughts with CCTV and ID cards (which I am against anyway), but if you find that if they try to interfere in the reproductive rights of one half of the population then there will be a lot of anger.

Abortion isn't birth control, the pill is an example of birth control ie: prevents pregnancy whilst abortion terminates it. Abortion should be the woman's decision, some agree some disagree but you should never frown upon anyone who does abort unless you've gone through it, or know the story behind it. Either way like I said before it should be the woman's decision whether to abort or not.

Politicians do have the right to make laws against it. If the Supreme court can create law about it, then by damn, the legislature certainly can.
Of course, the Supreme court never had the right to make that call in the first place.
-------
It's NOT used as birth control? In EVERY single abortion had by people I know, that's the ONLY reason it was done.
Let's not be stupid here, people, the fact is that abortions are mainly, >99% about ending an inconvenient / unwanted pregnancy. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims & shits like a duck, bet your freaking life, it's a duck.

I keep seeing people on here saying "Don't have sex omg!" But really guys, it's human nature. Face it, even if you tell you're 17 year old daughter to never do it, she's going to. We were all young once. The hormones and curiousity always win.
I think what the questioner was asking, is if abortion is ok, what is the limit to how many one can have? Instead of dwelling on whether it is legal or moral, let's have an open mind and think about those who walk into clinics several times a year and repeatedly do so.
I'm on the fence about all issues involving abortion. There are two sides of the coin here to think about.
First, abortion used in special circumstances should never be questioned. If having this child puts the mother's health in serious risk, she should have it. If the baby was the result of a rape, she should have it. If the baby is not going to survive anyway for health reasons, she should have it.
Next, I don't think any child deserves a bad life. If the mother feels in her heart she is not ready to provide that baby with the love and care it needs, then by all means, have one. There are already too many coke, FAS, neglected, and abused babies out there.
But, as for a woman walking into a clinic repeatedly for an abortion, instead of using preventive measures, it's not exactly wrong for all of the above reasons. She just wasn't given proper health education on prevention, or perhaps she doesn't have insurance to pay for birth control. Instead of hatefully bashing would-be-mothers for having repeated abortions, we should be teaching and helping them not to conceive in the first place. Telling them to go against human nature with inane comments like, "close your legs then," will not help.

Women should NEVER use Abortion as Birth Control.
Contraception is for Birth Control.
Abortion is there for the rare times that contraception fails.
Or for other issues which I wont discuss in this setting.
Abortion as Birth Control is physically damaging and should be used as last resort ONLY.
Politicians SHOULD have the right to decide this.
Right-to-lifers are against it on principle. Abortion can be dangerous and women have been known to DIE following the procedure!
As far as I am aware NOBODY has died using condoms, the Pill or any other form of contraception.

I am against abortion, but even The Most High gives us choices to make. If abortion is used as a form of birth control...it is very dangerous to the mother. I think politicians have no right to make any laws that prevent a woman from making her own choices. I would encourage any woman to chose to allow the child to live. Yes...I have adotped children as well as my own biological children and both have been a complete blessing to me.
