Indeed he was a WSJ reporter. But I'd quibble about the term "execute" since he wasn't a criminal or combatant. He was murdered by terrorists. He was a Wall Street Journal reporter dedicated to cross-cultural understanding, that is why he did so much work in the Muslim world. He was kidnapped by Islamist extremists in Pakistan and beheaded because he was American and Jewish. Pearl did not make an issue of his Jewish heritage, but his murderers did.
