hi there,
I've had children myself and was faced with this dilemma. there is alot of superstition about buying a crib or cot for the baby too early and people sometimes say that it is bad luck if you buy items like this too early in your pregnancy.
well i've been a nurse for 25 years and i have had 3 babies as i explained to you.
i bought myself a crib and clothes when i was about 6 months pregnant with the first baby. this was a convenient time for me as i had finished working.
with the second and third baby i was more relaxed and did the shopping for the baby at a time that suited me.
i had no problems.
the best time to go shopping is when it suits you.
go when you want to and take no notice of others opinions.
good luck

Well since you already know your a girl, you can start whenever you like. With my first child (now 4 1/2) I started at 8 Months..Late shopper! But It was fun, it kept me really busy the last two months during the hot CA summer.
My second was a girl I started as soon as I found out, a little here little there.. Course after she came I figured I didn't do nearly as much as I should. Go figure!
Now 7 months pregnant with a girl I havn't done a single thing yet. I plan on waiting another month so I can keep myself busy yet again this time my very excuse to get out of the house and do something , plus it'll keep my kids busy helping to pick things out.
So you can start now, if you don't have a crib you'd do that pretty much now instead of waiting. The clothes , you can pick up a little here a littler there (trust me it never seems like you have enough anyways!) Diapers though, I'd wait just about the last month, you'd get a better idea of how big the baby will be so you don't end up getting the wrong size, but you may want to stock up on those, and wipes! The diapers a baby can go through, good lord!
But now I'd be getting furniture, that way it won't be rushed or stressful later on. Plus you have months to re arrange, arrange again, and re arrange yet again the baby's room until your hearts content! Believe me, sometimes that along is such a blessing to be held up with. When you start counting down weeks and days, you'll want something to be keeping you busy, whether it's getting the clothes in the last month, or organizing the room and getting ready. I think that's what kept me sane the last stretch!

Enjoy! I hate shopping but I I suddenly begin to love it when it's for a little bundle of joy on the way! So enjoy it, have fun.

I think it can be any time. When I was preg with my first the doctor told me it was a boy so I started buying everything blue. It was a girl so I had to buy everything again, my poor daughter didn't have anything to wear all her clothes were boys clothes. the first pink clothes she had were the ones she received as a gift from others. because we didn't have anything for her. her first dress was a gift from a friend. I felt bad because I never thought that it could be a girl. the good thing is that I took a yellow outfit to the hospital, so she came home with a yellow outfit. I think you should buy unisex outfits so when the baby arrive it won't be a surprise. plus you can use same clothes if you have a boy in the future. now I am pregnant for second time and the doc told me I am having a boy this time. but I didn't bought much just a few outfits that were on sale. I didn't spent much money on the new clothes less than 15 dls. don't buy too much clothes they outgrow them very fast, just a few and try to buy 2 or3 size bigger than her because she will grow very fast.

I started buying things the day that I found out I was pregnant... Mostly just packages of onesies and socks, bottles, changing pads, wash clothes, stuff that could be used regardless of the sex and that I was going to have to buy anyway. I started buying more gender specific items when I was 22 weeks along and I found out the sex, and then at around 6 months, I bought the crib and changing table. Some people wait and get it all at once at around 8 1/2 months when they are nesting more but I kept myself on a budget because of the amount of time that I would be taking off of work... it was easier for me to buy a little at a time and save more money towards the end of my pregnancy. At about 35 weeks, I did splurge... I got my tax return and went and bought everything that I could think of that I hadn't gotten yet. It worked out pretty good... we had everything we needed by the time our daughter was born and we didn't break our budget at all.

Now sounds perfect. What we did was buy a little bit each week the whole way thru the pregnancy. By the time i had the baby we had way to much. But we never really went broke getting stuff because we bought a little bit each week. This time we are waiting till we find out the sex of the baby becsuae we already have the major things like crib, car seat, stroller, bassinette, all that stuff. Good luck !!

Honestly, I started buying clothes right away. And at 20 weeks, when I found out what it was I went even more clothes crazy! As for the crib and furniture, I will be buying all that next month (Feb-i am due April 15). It's really up to you when you want to buy it. We just have to get the nursery organized first....... I bought a swing and a jolly jumper months ago.......

You can start now. I started buying this the week I found out i was pregnant. It is fun to do the nursery before you get too big and don't want to do anything.

You should start now if you see things on sale...it really depends on what you need. Clothes, don't buy to many they grow very fast. A crib she wont use until at least three four months. A bassinet yes!

Bottles, yes. Diapers, yes. Bouncer, yes. A swing, yes.

Other things are up to you.

I am due 6th May and my birthday is 16th so there is a possibility that mine may be born on my birthday :o)
My Mum and Dad bought the cot for us about 2 mths ago and my mother in law has kindly offered to buy our pram which we ordered 2 weeks ago. We have been 'collecting' bits and bobs like vests and sleep suits since approx 14 weeks but I hear now is the time to get most of it done as when the 3rd trimester arrives shopping can be very tiring!
All the best with your pregnancy and I will think of you as my due date gets closer :o)

I would go ahead and start getting things here and there while there's still time. May 15th will creep up on you before you know it! It's better to be really prepared. My husband and I are ttc our next baby and i've already picked up a couple of small items such as burp clothes, sleepers, and anything I see on a clearance rack.
Congrats on your little girl!!!
