I'm going to prom this year as a chapperone. I'm older... 23. I'd like to wear a 1950's halter style dress. I like the polka dot style dresses but I don't think they're dressy enough for a prom. Then, I decided that I'd love a 50's style halter dress that's black with little pink wrenches... so long as it was dressy enough for a prom. Any ideas where to find this? Or where to find fabric to attempt to create this? I'm also open to other dress ideas so long as it's retro.

Thanks :)

The best site to find beautiful and unique dresses is on the Stop Staring! website. They have soooo many nice dresses there. But I have to warn you, they're pretty pricey. I think they are way worth the price, but every one has their own taste. I own a couple of Stop Staring! dresses and also most of their jeans and tops and even their swimsuit. I am completely satisfied with all their clothes. It's really well put together and just beautiful pieces of clothing. Check out the site, I'll be surprised if you don't find anything there.

fabric shouldnt be too hard to find especially if u wont mind a plain black dress, which i think would look more dressy. as far as inspirations i ve googled 50's dresses and many pics came up.
if ur old aunties or grannies used to sew in their days maybe they have some patterns which could help you make the dress.
50's is in fashion noadays so just look well in the stores to see what u can find, maybe u should also try and take a look at some charity shops even if it is just for inspiration.

properly i could advise no longer picking reds or pinks seeing as how your hair is pink and you do no longer want a conflict of colorations. how a pair of dark green? i think of maximum dark colorations could look stunning on your mild skin.
