The opposite of love is indifference. Both love and hate are strong emotions that you would be willing to take action for. Indifference is a total lack of emotion.

the opposite of love is most likely hate. Apathy is merely the path that can turn love into hate if one is uncaring and apathetic for long enough and then becomes indifferent. Love is when one will do anything for another. Hate can often be created by anothers apathy to the love. hate is the feeling of anger and fear when confronted by the person. Apathy could be argued to be a true path to a state of peace that neither love nor hate offers, but generally is only a path to depression- apathy is not uncaring, but rather an active denial of caring that may exist and is being avoided usually for self-protective reasons, which are not wrong, but may be hurtful to the one who is being protected from love-status.

Indifference could be argued to be as the blissful state of peace towards what formerly was a problem, but is now percieved to be merely an illusion of a problem. Indifference towards a former love that went badly is true peace.

The best love is one that matures into mutual respect and doesnt degenerate along the path of apathy, and takes work and mutual desire to love and be loved... Indifference is what everyone prays for when love goes badly. Apathy is the path to hate. Hate is the polar opposite of love.

It can't be hate. It has to be indifference or apathy. When I love someone and they hurt me I feel as if I hate them. When I am over it all I just don't care. Hate and love sometimes mix.

Hate. You have to think to hate. Hate produce intentional damages, the ones you get because of apathy can be so bad or even worse but sometimes are not intentional.Apathy can appear as state of depression/ stress, I guess.

Indifference, it lacks any emotion, whereas apathy seems to me to indicate a lack of concern. Since both hate and love are emotions, indifference would be the absence thereof.

The 'opponent'?? Do you mean the opposite? The opposite of hate is love. Why? Because the definitions of both words are opposite of the other.
