I found a question on this site where someone was wondering what to do about a cat that had a deep cut and they had no money for a veterinarian. The question was closed to new answers and it upset me to think that the cat didn't get help.

Here is a list of links in case any of you need to get help for a sick animal and you can't pay.

I dont know what other countries have but here in uk we have rspca and pdsa where you can take sick animals if on low income and have trouble paying they will treat them and either waiver the fee or let you pay a bit at a time depending on circumstances. I think the U.S.A. has a similar scheme ???
Sorry dont know about other countries hope this helps would be nice if we found out if cat had been treated.

It's even more annoying when pet insurance is so cheap when paid monthly and a lot of the good ones pay directly to the vet so you don't have to find the cash whilst your claim is settled. Maybe pet insurance should be manadtory for owning a pet so no animals suffer in this way. So many animals get put to sleep rather than the owner paying more money to put them right. I hope nobody euthanises me if ever i break my leg! Lots of pet insurers only have schemes for cats and dogs but small animals feel pain and cost lots of money at vets too. I had very little choice in shopping around when insuring my 2 rabbits. One of my rabbits got taken ill and had to go to emergency vets but a clause in my policy only covered injury for the first two weeks so I had to pay up £220 for an overnight stay and some drugs and I paid it but next time it could be a lot worse and my insurance will cover it.

It's disturbing to think people just run out and get a pet with no consideration for the pet's welfare or health care.

I have never had a pet which I could not afford to maintain and/or medically treat when necessary. If I can't afford it, I don't have it.

The same thing goes for children.

I'm always amazed that people would go out and get a pet and not consider the finacial responsibility of it. It makes me so mad to think that those poor animals go with out proper care.

It's comments like yours that send my world spinning. The concept that any first world nation dosen't have free health care is just mind boggling!

Thank you for caring about animals. It's much appreciated. Not everyone can afford a vet bill.
