It should be left to individual choice as to what to do. I don't mean to sound cold but I would rather see us worry more about the US and less about the rest of the world. If we are asked to help a country our leaders should put it to a public vote and only after the majority has approved should they take any action. I am tired of my taxes being sent to help countries overseas without first being allowed to have a say in the matter. It was very similar actions that was behind the Boston Tea Party the only difference is that the people paying the king knew they were paying him and the taxes that go to places like Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Japan, and tons of other places out of our tax dollars is hidden from us and done without our knowledge.

I think people need to wise up, and start effectively using all the charity going to Africa to mobilize the populace.

First of all, the only reason the people are poor and a few leaders are rich is due to lack of access to capital at the individual citizens level. Restructuring the governments is the only thing that will help.

Secondly, the only way the above restructuring will benefit the people is if we focus on the REAL health needs: it is noble to feed starving children, but if their parents cannot walk, type, read, due to physical health issues, then there will be no workforce.

With no productive workforce, Africa has no chance. Charities addressing perceived needs are HUGE part of the problem.

Address this question to Bono and other self-appointed saviors who think that pouring money into Africa (or removing its debt) will magically help its people out of poverty and disease.

Probably the best solution is to turn away from socialism, which has done more to impoverish entire nations than any other system. They'd to well to become more capitalist like India, which has lead to more wealth for all, more technology, better health, greater access to education and property.

Seems to be the state for leaders anywhere, including here.

Have a look around your own country. Do you see rich leaders and poor citizens?

So I guess we applaud them for following our example.
