In a town? In a mall? Near a college? Online? From a catalogue? Where have you had the most success getting fashionable (but not hugely high-priced) business wear?

I live in northern VA and it's EXPENSIVE out here! I don't need name brands. I need two weeks worth of office clothes as right now I only have one suit. I can shop at Tyson's Corner (an expensive set of malls), a regular mall, DC, Fairfax (expensive town-ish area), or the somewhat ghetto area near University of Maryland.

Burlington Coat Factory or New York & Company (maybe a bit expensive for you). If you ever get a chance, go to Arundal Mills in Anne Arundal County, Maryland. Up near Ft. Mead. It's a huge mall, with so many stores to choose from...even Burlington's. If you like malls, you will surely enjoy this. But you and I know that the cost of living is very high in the Tri-state area.

go to the mall when there is a sale. Thats what i do and i get a good deal usually. Kohls has some really nice fashionable casual in the misses dept. There prices are always 50% or buy one get one free. I know this because i worked there a while ago. If you dont have a kohls go to the mall and just look in the misses dept. clearance in whatever store you like. you should be able to find some nice stuff.

Dress Barn has some really nice business clothes that you can dress up or dress down. I bought three pants suits there for about $120 plus camis to match.

If you want a little more upscale clothing try Ann Taylor or Ann Taylor Loft.

Kohl's or TJ Maxx are also good but you have to be a little more picky and inspect them for broken zippers or missing buttons.

If you have any outlet malls nearby I would start there too.

It depends on your age and style, but Talbot's sells classic casual clothing. Some major cities have Talbot's (and other quality clothiers) outlets. If you're on a budget, they are your best bet. Just do an internet search for outlets in your area.
Burlington Coat Factory also carries an amazing range of "last-season" brand name clothes for very low prices. If you are in emergency mode, spend a few hours there picking up basic gabardine and wool skirts, slacks, and blazers.
Finally, Coldwater Creek has beautiful, grown-up work clothing that holds its value in the washing machine. My best buys from them have been online from their OUTLET store. Their customer service is outstanding. You get the best deals if you buy off-season. (Hint)- go to their mall stores first to try on several different styles of slacks and dresses. Then, when you order online, you'll have a sense of what size will fit and how it will fit, as many of CC.'s pattern shapes are similar.

GIRL. Try TJ Maxx or Plato's Closet. You have to search sometimes, but you can definitely find some staple products at both stores that will get you through! Be creative!
