I will attach to wooden (bamboo) handles

I've used everything from brocades, to jacquards to tapestry, to velvet, to silk, to chintz, to chenille, to damask. Just know that the thinner the fabric the more the need to line it because the bamboo handles will cause the fabric to tear or fray once the purse is filled with stuff. Sometimes I use a stabelizer at the top (which are either bamboo "runners" that the fabric either slides into and the handles attach to or I will insert a heavy stock cardboard in the seam at the top and sew the handles into that).

Brocade, Lame, chintz, ......an oriental patterned fabric might go best with the bamboo handles.
