Interesting. I associate corduroy with the '70s and sometimes with euro-punk style. I think corduroy looks better when it's worn out too.

Lately denim in the States for women has gotten really thin! Weak, cheap, cruddy stuff with lots of flaws. I even live in an expensive area, it's not like I'm shopping where quality is normally low.

I wear corduroy pants while doing sword and shield fighting in the SCA because they're more comfortable than sweats and don't tear like denim. Also, they "grip" my kneepads better so they don't hike all over the place. Pretty sweet!

I agree other than the fact that denim can be worn all year, corduroy is for winter! As far as casual or dressy though, corduroy is the more versatile fabric.

Maybe but denim is more hard-wearing, the pile rubs off corduroy after a while and it starts to look shabby quite quickly

I agree that corduroy is much more versatile than denim, but I wear it only for sporty occasions. I have a grey corduroy sports jacket to wear with black pants and various sporty shirts and ties. I do not wear denim at all, for I am not a cowboy or a housepainter who wants cheap and durable clothing.
