I have spent the last two weeks answering questions for people on pets, and society culture. mostly hamster questions. my 7 month old hamster blossom got sick suddenly, wet tail he says, dies at the vets office 2 hours after i took her, less than 2 days after showing symptoms, is this fuu*** up or what? i have two others but she replaced an accidental death hammy, and the other two were not like she was. personality wise.

Hamsters do have such a short life span. I have never gotten one to live past a year. Wet tail is definitely a death sentence and we did everything to prevent it, our other one also passed from it, and Cookies still died from it. I am thinking of getting a Guinea pig next time instead. Our hamster ended up paralyzed and shaking in a coma. My daughters were so distraught we went to the vet and had him put to sleep. Sounds funny but it was so sad...and the bill was $50. $50 to put a 1lb hamster to sleep. We were so sad. Cookies was a sweetie too and never bit at people like Oreo did. I don't know why the good ones go first but i sympathize with you honey.

I am so sorry that your hamster died suddenly. Many people do not consider this kind of pet as important as a dog or cat but of course you know better. May you find peace in being grateful for having blossom for the time that you did have her. It sounds like she was really special.

I had two birds that were from the same family. They got along fine. As soon as I got a songbird and put her in the same cage the other 2 who were parakeets were biting her. I had to buy a separate cage. So now I have two cages to clean. But at least I have a little peace now.

Hamsters don't tend to live all that long, unfortunately they live long enough for people to get attached to them. My boyfriends little sister was so upset when her hamster died a few years ago. She was so sad for a few days.

I'm sorry to hear that. Not that it makes anything better, but it is really nothing you did.

I still feel bad about accidentally crushing my brother's hamster several years ago.
