My clutch just went out and I was told it would cost more to replace it because the '03 Cavaliers have a flex fuel engine. Can anyone confirm? If so, I'm going to start buying ethanol. Thats way cheaper than gas! If not, Brakes Plus is trying to screw me.

I was never planning on going to brakes plus, my boyfriend's shop will do the job without charging me for labor. I just like to call around to see how much labor would cost so that I can give them an appropriate tip.
Ethanol, actually, is an energy sink. More petrolium is used to produce and ship it than energy is produced by it, so actually buying ethanol is not making a statement at all. I did not know it got worse fuel efficiency for it though.

The clutch shouldn't have anything to do with the fuel used in the engine. You need to call another shop and get a second opinion.

You can run your car on ethanol, however, the tests that have been run show that the decrease in fuel efficiency is far more than you will save by buying the less expensive ethanol, rather than gasoline. You would, however, be making a statement, like those who drive hybrids even though they are more expensive to own and operate.

You can go to your local library and look in the Mitchell Estimating guide. Look up clutch R&R labor costs for your car, that will let you know if labor is higher for your car.

If E85 is a lot cheaper use it! We only have 1 E85 pump locally and it costs about the same for a net loss using it.

It could be the dead cells in your battery killing the alternator and shorting out your starter we have 2003 also but have not had that problem .Get a new battery when ever you get a new alternator .Then again your timing chain could be going out.

Don't drive one and wouldn't own one. My suggestion would be to sell it for what you can get immediately. Oh, and yes, Brakes Plus is trying to screw you. Don't give in, stay a virgin!
