My old car has a long thin crack in the windshield and i was wondering will i get pulled over for that? I'm close to buying a new car and i'm going to donate my old car so i really dont' want to spend hundreds on a new window that i won't use for long unless its illegal.

They can pull you over for any maintenance issue (windshield, lights, loose trim, etc.) At worst they give you a "fix it" ticket...kind of a warning without penalty that shows that the cop is doing his job and noticed. Unless there is some threat to life, they won't waste their time.....they are to busy waiting to catch me speeding again. So save your money and enjoy that new car. Awesome of you to donate the old one...someone will really appreciate it!

I don't live in Viriginia, but I am sure that it is illegal in all states to drive with a cracked windshield. If you are getting rid of the car soon, I probably would not do anything either; waste of time and money. They will only write you a citation for the windshield if they pull you over for something else like speeding and they notice it. I doubt they will pull you over for just that. Good luck!

Yes it's illegal in Virginia to drive a car with a cracked windshield. Just so you will know it's ILLEGAL in most states.

yes it is if its a bad crack blocking your vision of the road. When u go get a state inspection they might not pass u if its a really bad crack. Virginia laws are strict and stupid to me. So ur best bet is get it fixed before a butthead cop stops u, or just buy a car like u said. hope it helps.

In my state you can have a crack unless it is in the wiper area. You must get it fixed then. I think in some of the warmer states they may be a little more lenient since the sun beating on the windows will crack them. I see a lot of cracked windshields in CA, AZ, NM, etc.
