My wife sees no sense in it as she quite rightly states we will only be getting back into it at the end of the day. Are there any reasons based on hygeine or etiquette for making the bed?

At the end of the day, nothing feels more relaxing than slipping into a well-made bed.

Would you be happy if you were staying in a hotel and the bed wasn't made daily? Why treat yourself worse than a hotel would?

Of course, you can always use the same reasoning my mom did while growing up: "Why eat? You're just going to get hungry again?"

The age-old struggle between the pragmatist and the neat-freak! That was to make you laugh. Logically, there is no reason to make a bed in the morning. You don't have a leg to stand on there. What this is about is habit, taste, and comfort zone. I'll bet your Mom had you make your bed every morning, while hers didn't. It's time to look for a compromise that both of you can live with. It's been suggested before, and I agree, a down comforter might be your solution. You need to take into consideration whether you both sleep "warm" or "cold" and find one that fits your needs. I have a summer weight comforter that is great in all seasons. Be sure to get a washable duvet cover for it since the comforter itself has to be dry-cleaned. Then in the morning, all you have to do is fluff the thing over your bed. Ta-da. Then, you be grateful that this minor issue can be worked out so easily with such a simple compromise. I wish you both sweet dreams.

My husband is the same way - our bedroom was so unorganized and tended to be the storage area for unfolded laundry, clothes that needed to be put away, etc. Several years ago I came home from work to discover he had taken the entire day off and had totally re-done our bedroom! He bought a new comforter with matching pillows, new curtains, lamps and picture frames. He re-arranged the room in such a way that it's now our little private slice of heaven! I WANT to make up the bed, just so the entire room looks like a magazine page every single day, and I look forward to the moment when I can enter our lovely 'love nest' and relax at the end of the day! So.......I said all of that to say this - perhaps a makeover would do the trick! Surprise her for Valentines Day!!!

Blessings!

Who would want company to see their unmade bed? I think that would be good etiquette to make the bed if only for that reason. Also, making the bed every morning before going about other tasks actually makes you feel as though you've accomplished a big task for the day!

Not so much heygeine or etiquette, but more esthetics. A neatly made bed looks more inviting and actually feels better than getting into a bed with crumpled sheets.
I make our bed every morning and it gives me a tidier feeling.
(But thats just me.) Also if someone comes to visit (depending on where your bedroom is), it makes the room more presentable should someone happen to pass by.
I just think it's sloppy and lazy to leave a bed unmade.

Neatness, and appearance are the biggest. Another would be, that an unkept home does have an emotional mood altering effect. a neet home creates better moods. If that doesn't work, stretch it.... If your roof starts to leak above a made bed, then you only need to move the bed and wash the blankets, but an unmade bed, and you'll be sleeping on the floor for a few days...

My momma always said that if someone walks into your house it will look messy mainly because bed is not made. Things can be laying around the house all day long, things may be in order and all over the place, but once bed is made it looks way way more presentable and other things may not look as bad as if bed was all messed up along with other things around the room.

I make the bed every morning. It takes less than a minute to pull up the sheet and comforter and put the throw pillows back on the bed. It's really just for aesthetics.

THERE is NO justification for spending the time to make a bed.
1) You need to "air out the linens"
2) say you spend 5 min. per day. Now multiply 5.x 365 = 1825 min per yr. x 10 yrs.=18,250 min or 304 hrs.
THAT'S 12.67 .DAYS in ten (10) years MAKING BEDS. FIGURE out Yours wasted time

How about a compromise. Why don't guys get a nice white fluffy down comforter. Less hassle to make, soft, fluffy and inviting. My husband complained about me tucking the entire spread into our modern low bed(he said it was pain to make and very uncomfortable to sleep in) So, we went out and got a pricey but so worth it down comforter. When you get out of the bed just simply pull the comforter up to the head of the bed that's all. It has change sleeping and making the bed process to a very happy one.
