Barry Sanders was over 1000 yards ahead of Emmitt Smith and about 1300 or 1500 away from breaking Walter Payton's all time mark. He retired and never came back. For that, some fans say that if they had to choose the greatest running back of all time, they would not pick Barry Sanders because "he didn't have heart". But I think he had the biggest heart of them all to make a decision so scrutinized and and stick to it. His heart was not for the fans or the game but for himself. I mean nobody was going through what he was going through just like nobody is going through what you and I are going through. Anybody else would do what Emmitt Smith did and get the record even though he wasn't going strong anymore. Everybody sees the outside and whishes to be him, but nobody knows the inside and wanted him to do what they wanted him to do. He is more human than all his critics.

Emmit? I think he was close. It had to be him or Barry Sanders. I think Emmit played later than 99.
