Is it an all-around mellow place to be ? No rude people ? Or are they all lazy and more apathetic because marijuana tends to make some people get that way after prolonged use. What's the crime-rate like over there ? Is it low because everyone is "chilled" out and calm ? I'm not going there because I don't get on airplanes...just curious to know how other parts of the world live and if it's a good place to live ?

The fact that marijuana is legal in Netherlands does not mean that everybody is a consumer. In fact the consuming rate of drugs in Netherlands is not higher than in other countries (except due to drug-tourism). The difference is (and that was the idea behind it) that people who anyway consume "light" drugs are decriminalized and are not dependent of the black market. Prices and quality (drugs are not 'streched' by other toxic substances) are controlled by the government, no more need for illegal dealers on every corner. The controlled prices result in a lower acquisition criminality of addicted people.
Like the former American or Finnish Alcohol Prohibition proved, prohibiting does not reduce any consumption rate but only fills prisons and produces a very nutritive ground for organised criminality...

It is a stereotype that "everybody" is smoking dope in the Netherlands. Not true at all. Many people do not smoke - others do. This law is more about keeping an open mind and not judge users of soft drugs - but not about promotion drug use.
Yes, it is a good place to live, liberal, open and tolerant.

Just for your information/education The Netherlands has the lowest drug addiction in Europe.

The highest consumers are all foreigners who come here to enjoy drugs because they can not do it in their own countries.

The Netherlands is a very peaceful country with very nice people.
