the guy above is thinking of Martin Luther KING. Martin Luthur is from the 1600's or so I believe. He posted a list of 99 complaints (the 99 thesis I believe) on the Catholic Churches door about how he believed they were corrupt and needed to change. That wasn't offensive! In those days, all complaints and issues were dealt with that way.

The main issues were that the church accepted "bribes" to raise people in status, etc. They were living rich while most of the cities were poor. There were 99, as I said, which you can look up online.

After the Catholic church refused to change its policies and ways, despite the horrific corruption of the priests and whatnot, Luther protested until his death.

Shortly after he died a bunch of people got together and decided to start a new branch of Catholicism that they named "Luthernism" (it still exists today). It was very similar to Catholicism, but it forced the people in the church to not be corrupt.

This opened a floodgate for people all over Europe and in a short period of time several new relgions were created.

Remember though, that Anglicanism was created by King Henry VIII when he wanted to divorce his wife and the Church wouldn't let him.

All in all Martin Luther's movement allowed for Christian religions, besides Catholicism, to develop.

He made Lutheran Protestantism. He put the liturgy into a language that the common man could understand and took the idea of people needing an intercessor off the table.

In Catholicism the Virgin Mary is the intercessor for use people to god Thus the Hail Mary Prayer" Hail Mary full of grace pray for us." Protestants believe that you can talk to God Directly so the priest and the like are not as necessary. That was in general how Martin Luther changed Christianity

Also you can't buy your way into heaven by getting a papal dispensation which was the way the pope was getting money to finish St Peter's in Rome.

Do you mean Martin Luther, or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? This is a question you should ask in the history section.

Luther rebelled against the practice of buying and selling indulgences, that is paying for sins with money, but that was not the major effect of his work. The church taught that the authority for life was the scripture and the Pope, the cry of the reformers, was sola scriptura, scripture alone. The church taught that salvation came from a combination of trusting in Christ, and works, and self mortification. Luther taught that salvation came in Christ alone, he came to this conclusion based on certain passages in the New Testament such as this one from The letter to the Ephesians: "for it is by GRACE you are saved through FAITH, that not of yourself, it is a GIFT of God, NOT of works, so that no one has the right to boast." This revolutionized the way that people thought of God. Although he is credited with starting the Lutheran church, he always considered himself a part of the Catholic church. Interestingly, he married a nun.

Well as you might know, in the middle ages there was a break in Catholicism which we now refer to as the schism btw the catholics and orthodox religion.....Martin Luther protested agst what he viewed as the excesses of the Vatican/Rome. At that time, it was a practice for rich pple to pay the church a "fee" for "guaranteed entry into heaven"....Luther rejected all of this and formed what we now refer to as the protestant religion.....
