have a very old Yue and I ned to understand more about soil conditions ans how one trims them

Yew trees are tough, they need decent drainage, and can take some sun. They are slow growing and don't require much trimming. Sometimes the longest branches can be lightly tipped back to make them a bit fuller. I have seen them cut into big square in older gardens, those you can lightly shear to keep the shape.
