I mean, since when has it become a virtue to love to be stressed out from impossible deadlines and unrealistic working conditions?

Why have we accepted this as a success formula? It seems to be more of a request from the ever increasing greed of business owners...And please don't lay out that it about the raise in competition in the industry... I don't buy that....its just a corporate cry! I mean corporation have never made as high of profits!! So why do we buy into it?

Businesses are working under constantly changing demands and markets. So they need people who can adapt to change easily and quickly. Most people tend to stress easily if their normal routine is changed - ever hear "but that's the way I've always done it"? It's funny you said that corporations "have never made as high of profits", yet Ford just this week announced it's biggest loss in history. Some business prosper at given times while others flounder.

I think everyone likes to believe that they "work well under pressure", but honestly not many people do. What businesses need probably looking for are people who can work and focus under time constraints and adapt to a changing global market.

Being constantly stressed is not a good thing, nor do I feel it's a virtue. But being able to handle change and adapt, is.

I did, and became disabled as a result.

Perhaps when companies start to lose more & more of their best workers to overuse injuries (carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, thoracic outlet syndrome, dystonias, etc.), they will finally realize that one person simply cannot do the work of four - at least not for very long.

Perhaps then the relentless downsizing will have to stop, and CEO's will have to settle for just being millionaires, instead of multi-millionaires and billionaires.

This is why you see people now looking more to working for themselves. I can't say I blame them for looking and trying. Some are fortunate that way, others are still looking.
