Let me tell you something from my own personal experiences...
First, i'm married to a vietnamese/caucasian man and we have a daughter. We live in a suburb outside of Detroit. Now, in our neighborhood which is 99% white, we have absolutely no problems with anyone. We've met some of the coolest people there and they have all accepted us and our little girl. On the flip side....
Whenever we go into Detroit to hang out, we get so many blatantly rude looks from black people. The men look at me like i'm a traitor and the women look at me like I think i'm somehow better because I have a white man. I think it's absolutely disgusting. Black people are always screaming about racism and prejudice, yet they are some of the most prejudiced people out there.
Example: I Love New York....why does whiteboy have to be called whiteboy? If it was reversed and a black man was coined 'bruthaman' or 'blackboy,' you'd have Jesse Jackson raising bloody hell. The double standard is what's screwing up any chances for us to be able to move past all this crap.
OK i'm done..Good question.

I've never been hushed for saying "black", as a matter of fact, I thought that was the term that is politically correct. Ut uh, at least I thought so......
Well, anyway, I feel the same way you do - I could care less what color someone is - I take each person individually. I'm white, but I have a neice who is black/white and my brother adopted her. She is beautiful and sweet. She had a terrible time in school, though - both blacks and whites wouldn't accept her.
Sometimes it does seem as if black people are angry about the past. I don't see why they would be, though, esspecially at all of us - I've never had a slave, and prefer to do my own work, so I wouldn't choose to have one if it was available to me.
Also, if you trace back into history and look at the real truth, whites were the last to have slaves. Way before any slaves were brought here, they were being bought and sold by other blacks, not whites. The stronger, more powerful always oppress the less fortunate. Thats the nature of man, as terrible as it is.
Had we not bought slaves, and they were not brought here, that would not have meant no slavery - it just would have meant they would have been slaves elsewhere. And, it may very well have been alot more devastating. I am not endorsing slavery, but I am saying that if I were a black woman today, I would thank God that the way history turned out, that my children are free citizens in the most powerful country in the world. I would honor those in my history who suffered in slavery, certainly. But right on the heels of that, I would also be mighty thankful that the good Lord answers their prayers, and my children are free. I certainly wouldn't have any right to blame white people of today for the suffering of my ancestors. If you want to find someone who has the perfect right to point fingers at us and complain, go to any of the hundreds of American Indian Reservations of today.
Those are the people who's land and rights were taken away by white people. And I'll betcha they have much to tell you about suffering and exploitation.

Fozzie, those organizations would only be racist if they were formed against whites and to the exclusion of whites . You know, like the Klan was made specifically to destroy all but whites.. None of these organizations actively persue the denegration of any race so they are not racist. They were formed during a time when whites passed laws that banned blacks from education, jobs and equal rights. There was a need for black people to raise money for college and form organized groups to reform the racist laws, not to destroy white people. Get your facts straight.
And to answer the question, the prejudices of black people is mostly reactionary, meaning we usually are fine until we experience racism, then we react and we stay angry for a while. I think most non-blacks do not understand the deep deep pain of being told you are sub human due to the color of your skin. You can never understand how deep that hurts when you work hard, try to raise a good family and want just what anyone else wants and yet and still you are discounted because of your skin tone,, That hurts and of course from that hurt come immense anger.. I have since learned that not all white people feel the way the racists do and I will be good to everyone until they give me a reason not to, regardless of race.

I have noticed the same thing. Look at the Congressional black caucus, the Black lounges at any university around here, All the Black clubs where asians or whites or anybody else not "of color" are excluded, look at the Los Angeles riots where black rioters mostly attacked white motorists, asian businesses, and so on. There are even Black people who believe that they are genetically incapable of racism, and therefor when they do something racist, it aint happening, or it isnt really racist.
Black people do not need all this exclusivity. The accomplishments of the great Black people like Harriet Tubman, the Tuskegee airmen, Condoleeza RIce, Frederick Douglass, and many, many others stand equally with the accomplishments of those of any other ethnic group. Racism is evil and stupid no matter who is doing it, and EVERYBODY has racism in them. The most dangerous racists are the ones who deny it in themselves. Awareness of your own racism means you can fight it. If you dont believe it is there, it will consume you.

I don't think any race is more racist then that next, because every group has ignorant people. White people are the majority so there might in fact just because of numbers more racist white people then black. Either way these people are idiots, who don't have the intelligence not to associate behavior, actions and abilities with skin color.

I think they are. I was told that balck people can't be racist because they are oppressed. WELL< to that I say Bulls**T. Any person is capable of being racist. Sure, blacks were hated on in the past, but they are citizens now, and they are treated better than equals. There are all kinds of organizations for the advancement of black people, advantages everywhere.
I for one am tired of being called a cracker and then told that I am the racist!

I am not a racist person either. I have friends of all cultures, religions etc. I have noticed that people of color can be racist. I really think it is their environment as well. If you live with someone that is negative you tend to pick up that negativity. The thing that bothers me is they can have their own groups and that's okay but if its a white associated group than they are racist. I think that needs to stop and that would definitely help out alot. Altogether I am a people person and I really don't care if they are pink blue or red. Its how they are as a person and how they treat you and you treat them. We teach our kids to respect everyone no matter who they are. If everyone tried to do that and forgot the past because its over I think things would be alot better as well.

Absolutely! Black people are very happy to have their racist organizations like the United ***** College Fund, Miss BLACK America, the NAACP, etc.
Could you imagine having a United Anglo College Fund in this country for poor white kids.
Until the black community stands up to their own racism, I refuse to take them seriously. If they want to be treated like equals, then they must stop taking special privileges when it suits them.
Black people are also racist within their own communities. Darker skinned black people are looked down upon by the lighter skinned ones. How's that for stupid?

I don't think they're more racist than whites. I actually think whites are more racist because they have discriminated against the Native Americans, Irish, Japanese, Italians, Germans, Hispanics, Mormons, Blacks, and now Arabs. I imagine they're are plenty of other people that the whites have discriminated against as well. I think the reason blacks are treated so well in the USA is because of their history of being slaves since the founding of the USA.

Don't really know, but why use the term 'white people' or 'black people' in the first place??? Just use 'people', this describes ALL people. We (and I'm talking about ALL people) shouldn't have to say, 'black people', 'white women', etc.
Hope this makes sense!!!
