Why do older people feel threatened/intimidated by relatively younger staff in an company or organization?

Because younger staff bring new ideas that may bring major changes in the company. The older employees may feel that this is away from their comfort zone or things that they are used to.

Easy: Younger employees are more technology savvy. Older employees tend to do things the old-fashioned way and are mistrustful of technology. So if the company decides to upgrade, a young gun will learn to useit much faster and be proficient easier, and maybe even obviating the need for the older employee.

Because the younger people have been more recently educated, they have longer to work for the company so they are more appealing to management, they generally can be paid less because they are just starting out without having got a raise every year, and they have more energy.

Also, I think sometimes older people aren't threatened, but genuinely nervous because younger people are also naive and haven't learned "how we do things here" so they're likely to break unspoken rules and step on toes.

Older. i'm 23 and that i've got faith that my existence has been perpetually long. i could experience in a different way as quickly as I become older than i'm now. yet truly, the previous six years of my existence have truly been an entire life.

maybe they feel as if this younger person joining the staff is going to outdo them and prove stronger thereby making them look as if they're not needed and it may jeopardize their job
