I'm not sure what the "technical name is but each time I would access a site, there would be a meter bar that would go from left to right showing the progression the computer was making getting into that site. It was clear down on the bottom of the monitor. I would love to have it back and have no idea on how to retrieve it. Please tell me how to put it back on.

Probably has nothing to do with your monitor - but your web browser.
Go to the view menu of your web browser and click on Status Bar.

I can give you a link that deals with drive problems.
Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
