It was Henry the VIII and he was mad at the Pope who would not allow him to divorce his wife Catherine, so he could marry Anne.. and so since he was a tyrant king and had the power; he decided to set up his own religion and anyone that didn't agree with him got killed off. So it was very sad for the Catholics that remained in England they were persecuted and many went to live in France. Then his daughters started more troubles and things settled down but not until the early 20th century.

Henry didn't want parliament to dissolve England's ties with the Catholic Church. Henry had to get an anullment from his spouse Catherine of Aragon which he would have as a king less than widely used circumstances, yet her father, Charles V and Holy Roman Emperor had captured Rome and the Pope. He become no longer going to allow his daughter to be disgraced with a divorce, so at the same time as Henry utilized for an anullment on the grounds of no longer having the flexibility to provide an inheritor (a valid declare for kings), the Pope denied him. Parliament exceeded the Act of Restraint of Appeals (1533) which ended all appeals to the Pope (which includes Henry's) and despatched them to the King of england, who become now the top of the English Church. This did not end England's ties to the Catholic Church, it merely gave Henry ability in the Church. England's ties with the Catholic Church were ended at the same time as Henry become excommunicated by technique of Pope Paul III in 1538. This meant England become now a Protestant usa in finished and different Catholic countries might want to attack it contained in the call of God and the Catholic Church.

You're thinking of Henry VIII.
There were a number of reasons, but one of the biggest was personal. Henry was desperate for a male heir, but his first wife, Catherine, couldn't give him one. Henry asked the Pope for a divorce, but the Pope wouldn't give him one (Catherine was closely related to the Holy Roman
Emperor Charles V, whom the Pope needed as an ally). Henry, always a demanding and impatient man, decided that if he became the head of the Church in England, that he could grant himself a divorce. So he did this.
Another reason was the wealth of the Church and the bad reputation of the monasteries and nunneries. The Church owned a great deal of land in England (all over Europe, actually), and Henry seized the properties he wanted. He melted down the gold and silver they had possessed and gave many of the properties to loyal aristocrats. This gutted the Catholic Church in England and made Henry VIII a major pioneer in making the Church more obedient to national needs.

It was Henry the VIII who wanted a divorce and it was he who began the Church of England, a separate Christian body.
Gee, a church founded because a king wanted a divorce. What a way to begin a church.

Do you mean Henry VIII. I believe he did because he was not granted anymore annulments and his wife was not able to produce an heir. So he separated from the Catholic and created his own church so he could get rid of that baron spouse and move on to the next.

Probably because he wanted a secular government, but you probably mean Henry VIII who created the Anglican Church for the sole purpose of being able to divorce his wife.
