flounderi...penguins - yes I know that then
what about the effects?

michelle - if effected by the ray of
sunlight then is it gonna change back
sometime? Is it the skin back to it's
normal color when responding to the genetics behaviour? Meaning you cannot change it because the genetics that contains will change it somehow?

Melanin content is mostly determined by genetics, with a minor amount of environmental influence (if you spend a lot of time in the sun your body will produce more melanin, within limits).

To the best of my knowledge, the genes controlling melanin production are not known, and even if you did we lack the means to consistently transfer and control them artificially.

As far as I know, Mr. Jackson had his skin lightened chemically. Not genetically.

Sorry, I don't have any knowledge about the effects of the treatment.

Two things can affect the overall level of melanin in skin - the rate of production and the rate of breakdown. The difference between fair and dark skin is mostly due to a lower rate of breakdown in
darker skin. However, when any given person is exposed to the sun, the darkening of the skin is a result of increased production of melanin by the melanocytes.

So genetics (race, skin type) and weather both affect melanin in a person's skin.

Yes both factors affect the final colour of the skin but I believe Michael Jackson has an auto immune disease known as vitiligo which causes patches of pale skin . the melanocytes are attacked and do not produce melanin.
