Drain the antifreeze from the radiator. Follow the top radiator hose until it meets a metal housing, usually held by two bolts.Remove the top hose at this point. Remove the bolts and the housing may fall off or you must tap it with a plastic hammer. The thermostat is beneath the housing. Replace it with one with the same specs. as listed in your hand book in your glove compartment. I'd use an AC Delco or NAPA has a new top shelf version that reacts quicker to heat and pressure surges. Purchase a new O ring or gasket at the same time. Clean the faces of the housing and where it meets the manifold or block. Use a small amount of high temperature silicone sealer ( NAPA has this) to the face of the thermo. housing. Do the same on the opposite face on the intake or block surface. Be sure your antifreeze is clean. It calls for Dexcool antifreeze. If your old antifreeze is a dirty brown color drain and flush your system with a Prestone flushing kit. I'm sure you'll be fine!

?????????????3.1 or 3.8
using a 13mm wrench reach down/behind/and under the exhaust crossover pipe and loosen the bolt from there. if your lucky youll be able to finish it off by hand. also the bottom bolt doesnt need to be removed completely, back it out about 1/2inch and rock the housings top away from the engine and up

Removing the throttle body is a must to get to the bottom bolt, 13mm head bolt the housing is slotted at bottom bolt but you still amost have to have it completley out to get housing off.

I don't think it is possible to change the thermostat in a 2001.

You might just want to look it up on yahoo.

Get a Haynes manual and it should tell you everything you want to know about your car. These manuals are reasonably priced and a wise investment.
