The link given is good for smoke detectors.However, they are just one element of fire alarm systems.
A complete fire alarm system consists of detection devices like smoke and heat detectors, and sometimes manual fire alarm boxes; control units; notification appliances like bells and strobe lights; power supplies and wiring. Often the fire alarm systems initiate other features such as shutting down air handling equipment, recalling elevators and closing doors. These are all things that can reduce the threat to life and fire damage. Some fire alarm systems also send signals to summon fire department aid.

your best bet would be 2 go 2 a firehouse...I sure you will find a lot of help there...You would probably make a fireman's day...
