"The Singing Cowboy"
His website now says:
America's Favorite Singing Cowboy.
++++++++++++++++
"In 1928 he was called "Oklahoma's Yodeling Cowboy"
http://www.geneautryokmuseum.com/GA2%20Pages/GeneAutry,man.htm
1927—Took his guitar, his railroad pass and $150 to New York to audition for record companies.
1928—Joined KVOO, Tulsa as “Oklahoma’s Yodeling Cowboy.”
1929—Wrote songs with railroad supervisor Jimmy Long and returned to New York and signed a contract with American Record Corporation.
1930—Sang on WLS/Chicago’s “National Barn Dance” and also on “Conqueror Record Hour,” sponsored by Sears, which included his albums in their catalogs.
1931—Recorded an Autry-Long song, “That Silver-Haired Daddy of Mine,” which sold 30,000 copies the first month."
++++++++++++
He was always known as The Singing Cowboy, as far as I know, but I can't find anything that gives a date for it. Only the yodeling thing.
ADDED: I've looked everywhere, but can't find anything that says he was named anything in 1930.
