It is the most important thing that takes place in the country and therefore should be thought out. Research is very important and I prefer not to get my information from the media as they all have an agenda. I get information from people like you and my neighbors, listen to their opinions and then check out what they say. I see if there are facts to support peoples views and statements. It is sad but I had a friend who told me he was voting for the Ca. governor (Arnold during recall election) because he was going to win. When I asked him what Arnold's platform was he said it doesn't matter he will win because he is the most popular. The guy went on to say I want to be on the side that wins. I ask you is this what it is all about?

sydb 1967 you say the republicans need to smear but the way I see it you are doing the smearing with that statement. I am neither Dem or Repub but attacking a party rather than an issue is not the way to get better leaders. Both sides have good and bad views but unless they focus on issues nothing good will be accomplished.

because this is one of the things we can actually do something about in this country. you have the right to vote and help decide who will lead this country for the next four years. maybe it's boring to some people, but if you start checking what a candidates record is like now you can actually have a fairly good idea of what they are really like, instead of listening to campaign adds that are all garbage anyway.
all the people who are going to run are starting to register, so we can get a sense for who may be facing who in a couple of years, rather than just doing the good old, they are a Dem, so I want them in, or they are a Repub, so I'll vote for them.
we need to get away from the habit of voting based on party, and start actually caring about what the person is like as a person.when that happens you will see some change and improvement, but as long as we still have two "superparties" duking it out , instead of one group of people who are actually trying to make this country better, things are going to keep getting worse. both parties are guilty of doing things simply for political reasons, just to prove that they are capable of flexing their muscles and showing that they have power. lets see a little less of that, and a little more actual work being done on capital hill.

Because candidates are declaring if they are running now, since it's costly so much to run campaigns these days. It's also one of the most open elections (no incumbents or VPs running) since 1952.

so that they can guess what it'll be like at the election and such..they probably think they are getting themselves prepared for the actual election.

Well...the media sure isn't going to cover any other hard hitting news...might as well focus on a popularity contest.
