Well, It is bad to laugh at them for their challenges however I work with the mentally challenged every day and let me tell you I laugh my butt off at them every day! They are hysterically funny, tell a GREAT joke and have wonderful senses of humor. So YES I laugh at "retarded" people every day and it makes me feel wonderful inside.
Just remember this...They didn't choose how they were born and they adapt and adjust well to their disabilities. They are HUMAN BEINGS and no one on this earth is perfect so next time, we should all take a step back and think before we laugh at someone with mental challenges...Unless they are telling a really good joke :)
God Bless
RESPONSE - To some of you that I have read with the opinion that it is OK to laugh at, make fun of or find ANY humor is someone elses disability.....Shame on you and just remember, what comes around goes around, Karma is a B**** and she will get you back three fold. BTW - Some of the "MR" people I know are smarter than 1/2 of the people that respond to these questions. (just my opinion)

My sister was on the bus standing beside this disabled girl. All of sudden she heard the girl say, "What you lookin' at shorty?" Now, my sister is 5 foot 6 inches. This girl was about five foot! And my sister wasn't looking at her at all! Where the comment came, from only the girl knows! My sister busted out laughing cause she was thrown off. Look who's calling who shorty! In the end, my sister hoped the girl didn't think she was laughing at her being disabled. She was laughing at her strange comment!

Yeah. I have, but it wasn't an "accident". It was the real me laughing at a normal person (From afar where he couldn't see or hear me - thank goodness). I thought he was "normal", but felt very bad when I found out he was retarded.

i dont you read this or not but i like to answer this question. I think i have laughed a lot on such persons. And i think it is not bad. Why should one feel guilty about this. You laugh beacause of a quick reaction and not after a planning thats why it is not bad. If you are making fun of a normal person then i think this is something you should think again as that person can think and feel ashamed and something like that. But if a person is MR then it doesn't matter to him that who is laughing and who is not. The Best way to answer this type of questions is to put yourself in that situation. And this is what i think when i put me into that situation.

Then you were not to blame, were you?? (Thank God it wasn't me because I would just die!!) Sounds like something I would have done!! Don't think about it anymore because that's something ANY little kid would do. Just exactly!! And you weren't the first and you won't be the last!! I imagine they get help in seeing the bright side of that!! For Real!! @8-)

yes I have, I work in retail, and someone came to the counter and tried to pay me in onions. the little pearl ones that come in a jar (but these were not in their jar). I laughed, then I realized that he wasn't all there. At first I just thought that he was messing with me, but I figured it out when he spoke. Felt like a jerk all day after that.

Yes I was in highschool and Hal Linden was in town and happened to be jogging around our highschool track. I was running around the track at the time, 16 years old and looking nothing like the guy. Some special-ed kid runs up to me and asks me "Hey, are you Barney Miller?". Pretty funny.

I don't think so. I mean, I have laughed at people who were stupid, but I do not think any of them were retarded!
