Corporate welfare has played a major cause, in our failing economy today. Corporations has reaped billions of dollars each year, while those who are in the impoverished category's, working or not, continue to deal with the rising cost of living and health-care. Partly due to Americans inability to see who are unjustly reaping away, the true funding for assistance from our Government. It is transparent and have been an overkill on part of Americans, to only speak of welfare recipients, and allow this big corporations to not be recognized, as abusing the system also. The monies received by big corporations each year, could support a welfare system currently for seven years. Now, who is these corporations? Why when corporations receive these government assistance monies, their CEO's and upper management will never decrease their pay, well laborers do see a substantial decrease in pay and benefits? Is it more acceptable to you as a American citizen to allow our government, to engage in giving millions of dollars to corporations that have gone belly up from mis-management? and is government at the State level also writing for federal grants greedily, and have also become co-dependent on federal funding? I think we all need to see who the true abusers of our tax monies are!

You appear to be mixing economics with politics. Capitalism can exist in most political systems, it just does better in some than in others. You correctly diagnose a major problem in the US by observing that wealth is generated by government handing out goodies of one form or another (subsidies, contracts, land grants, research grants, "loans", and the like). You overlook another form of favoritism/nepotism/cronyism in the draconian overregulation of all things which might be or become profitable. Too many laws & regs & agencies, each having the powers of interpretation, investigation, prosecution (including prosecutorial discretion to ignore violations by "friends" and to target competitors of "friends") and adjudication means that the connected get the advantages and the unconnected hope, at best, to fly under the radar until such time as they can defend themselves.

The problem is not capitalism, the problem is the proliferation of laws, regulations, and agencies that violate constitutional rights and principles like separation of powers. The problem started 120 years ago with passage of the Interstate Commerce Act, continued with passage of the Income Tax, creation of the Alphabet Soup of federal & state agencies, the New Deal and the rise of the welfare state, and the expansion of congress' commerce power (See Wickard v. Filburn).

Yes it is a mess. Yes, you must be politically connected to get the most benefit from the current system. But do not confuse what we have, a politically-influenced version of capitalism that is less corrupt than in most other countries (Australia might be less corrupt than USA) with pure, laissez-faire capitalism. To fix it, we'd have to take away the government goody system and the puppet regulatory system. Possible, but not likely anytime soon.

Sounds to me like you just wish you were wealthy. I remind you that in the US you will find an easier time acquiring wealth than anywhere else. You have the opportunity to get wealthy, but you just want it handed to you on a silver platter. Well, it's not going to happen. It's time to start working. Stop demonizing America because you aren't part of the 'social elite' in terms of wealth.
