That's totally wrong but it goes to show you where our country's morals lie. A person would rather watch someone get the snot beat out of him on a football field than to give the proper recognition to someone who saves lives. I'm pretty sure you've heard the stories about fat old bastards who get pissed at a nurse at a hospital cause her head is blocking his view of the game. I swear the U.S is just totally backwards.

Our present capitalistic society rewards those who can command a larger wage due to the money they make for the employer. Another factor is supply and demand.
Nurses do deserve more because the role they play in society is much worthier than that of a football player by some logical standards ( I.E. life and health is more valuable than entertainment), but our economic system is not based upon worth or value, merely profit.
If a nurse refuses to work until she is paid more, she will be fired and replaced. If a football star does this he will be given a higher salary because he is not so easy to replace and may earn millions for his team owners. So he can command more due to the scarcity of his rare skills and abilities. And the worship of the masses for his skills

Part of this is due to the history of nurses being traditionally women who have been exploited by men for centuries. The nurse must work under a doctor who was traditionally male. Now that some nurses are men and some doctors are women, the system has not changed as the new gender members simply adopt the habits of the previous occupants of the roles. Such is the power of custom and greed. (Female doctors do not insist on paying nurses more)

It may be judged to be "wacked' or as I take that to mean
"unseemly' but this is the price of free enterprise based solely upon the profit motive. If you want the blessings that come from this effective economic system that harnesses human greed, you must take the bad with the good.
Perhaps a blended system would work better to serve society but it has not been invented yet. Our youthful generation may yet invent a better system but they would have to put down their entertainments and begin to care enough to do it. Perhaps boycott football so it is not so valuable and profitable.
One way may be to tax football players and such and use the money to subsidize nurses and the like. Our tax system already favors some over others. We have but to tinker with it rationally to make those that are over-rewarded in silly professions pay more and those that are in more valuable services pay less or receive more subsidy. Maybe give a tax break to nurses and charge a premium to anyone making over ten times what it takes to have a decent life. That is what the progressive tax system was designed to do and yet it has been hijacked and diluted by powerful politcal forces bribed by the rich who hire "lobbyists" to do just the opposite.

Some programs to assist police and firemen and teachers with homes have been designed and more such devices should be encouraged to favor the "helping" professions. There are possible solutions but it takes an educated informed caring electorate to bring them about. In USA we have an under-educated, selfish and easily distracted electorate that does not really care much about anything except their own material pleasures. So we get what we deserve. It is wacked

My first instinct was to say yes.
My second thought was that while you save lives, they
entertain millions.
Third thought:
Since there are very few sports stars making $12 million, and a giant number of ER nurses, if you split it all up, it would only be a couple of bucks a year.
Life is indeed unjust.

Very wacked. Imagine how a Cop or Teacher must feel.

Yep. And what's even worse, the ER nurse will work so many hours that she'll never even be able to enjoy her salary.

That's why I left the ER and got into management.
Now I make almost double what I did and I sit here and play most of the day!

Yes, it's obvious as to which profession is more important.

Unfortunately, the sports profession has a lot more money

to spend because of the abundance of fans and ads that

are willing to invest a ton of money.
