The Mercedes-Benz E-Class starts at about $55,000. Mercedes are considered to be the pinnacle of engineering. I do not agree, however. Both the Audi and the Merc are excellent vehicles. But the Benz, you pay for the marque and to be honest, the performance and the handling are really sub-par.

The handling and the performance on Audi is a little better because it has all-wheel drive and a different suspension set up. Audi uses springs versus Mercedes air-shocks. The handling of the Audi will be better. The fact that it is AWD adds to the safety, but Mercedes is still very, very safe. Both cars are the same size and weight, its the little differences that end up making all the difference.

Personally, I really, really do not like the interior of the Mercedes. There's something about the ergonomics of the cockpit that seem so unrefined. This is personal and may not reflect your view. I do agree and feel that the MB product has deteriorated in quality which would definitely discourage my purchase of a MB.

The Audi however, is very nice. I recently sat and tried out all the Audis at the Detroit Auto Show and liked the Audi RS6 alot. It was very nice and the styling was spot-on inside. I personally would go with the Audi if I had only your two options.

However, that being said, I would do neither. I would, in fact, purchase a BMW, not because I currently drive one. But because I was in the exact same position as you and chose the BMW. I did this because the BMW has the blunt performance of the Mercedes, the refined, yet far superior, handling of the Audi, has AWD and the interior is designed like the Audi with the materials of the Mercedes-Benz. The BMW 530xi (AWD) has superior performance to the Mercedes and vastly better handling. Which is what BMW is known for. Now if we're talking AMG, that's a whole different story...

As for pricing ALL are just shy of $60,000.

I hope I managed to answer your question. Good Luck.

Audi A6. the mercedes benz is ugly and looks the same as the 10 yr old mercedes benz's. The Audi is faster, sportier, and better looking. I have driven both of them. Trust me.

Audi A6 everytime. I have one now after owning an E class and its far better in all aspects, you get a lot more car for your money, they are more comfortable, stylish, reliable, better made, cheaper to insure and generally a cooler car all round after all an E class is a bit of an old mans vehicle and mine caused me nothing but problems and the spares were a lot dearer than for an Audi.

From an Audi man.......go for the A6...as long as it's a quattro and minimum engine size 2.0t. NOT a 1.9tdi! If you want the Diesel....2.5tdi is a fantastic engine that also has enough power to be used in the A8!!

If you've never tried a Quattro....go to a dealers and ask for a demo. It's not just a 4WD system, and beleive me, once you've driven one, you won't buy another non-Audi car.

Mercedes little doubt. Audi`s at the instant are not as stable as some allow you to comprehend and enable`s face it BMW`s have a extensive image difficulty and are not truly actual worth the money in any case. no longer owned an Audi yet yet another ingredient is BMW`s `think of of a extensive style and quadruple it` scheme in case you ever have it serviced by skill of them or ought to purchase real factors. in case you appreciate being considered as a tw*t and you`re no longer very stable at driving then bypass Beemer :)

That is entrirely up to you. I'd suggest driving both, around town and on the highway. See what "speaks" to you the most.

Me? I've driven Mercs & Audis alike. I like the Audis, but that's just my preference.

Mercedes all the way...

Most Audis tend to be a little heavy at the front, causing significant udersteer compared to the Mercs

And Mercs are one of the safest to be in in the event of an accident too

:D
