How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one for both the girls and the boys!! its romantic and cute and the ending is aces - very soppy!! but it sounds like what your looking for!!
Or Pirates of the Caribbean!! not very heart warming but funny and brilliant!

Lord of the Rings has all the elements - funny situations, cute Hobbits, devlishly attractive elves (so my wife tells me - I'm jealous of Legolas!) plenty of swashbuckling action for the kiddies, and a fairy tale romance between a mortal man and an elven princess.

Out on DVD at the moment Dodgeball is very funny and quirky. If you like animals '8 below' will have you sobbing even though its from dysney.
On the pics my kids saw Night at the museum and where raving about it.
