Why is it that some folders on hard drive of my PC (Windows XP) have light blue text on them, and some have black? Thus drive C has blue text, while drive D - black. Thank you.

In windows, there is a setting to show compressed folders in an alternate color - that alternate color defaults to blue.

Open a folder, goto Tools->Folder Options then when the window opens, goto the View tab.

Scroll down and look for "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color"

If the check box next to it is checked, you have this setting turned on and the c: drive and all its contents are compressed.

the blue colored text means that the content of the folder is either compressed or is encrypted. When the content is compressed-- it saves a little bit of disk space, yet still allows you to freely work with the documents on there. you can change the properties -- by right clicking on the folder/file, then properties, click on advanced, check or uncheck the box "Compress contents to save disk space"
