Are some recent immigrants less patriotic than Americans born in the US?

I've heard many hispanics in the US say many anti-American things and talk about how great Chavez is. I was wondering how long people think it will be before hispanics and other recent immigrants see themselves as Americans and not hispanics that happen to live in the US...or "azlatan"?

I have had a lot of experience with recent immigrants as an ESL teacher in the inner city. There are families from Western Africa, Eastern Europe, the South Pacific, Central America, and YES, Mexico who are very proud of their new home, patriotic.

Is this just a hunch of mine? Well let me give you the evidence that I think is relevent. Particularly among the West Africans, I have heard concerns that parents were 'strongly' encouraging their children to join the military in order to show their support for their new homeland. Islanders join and actively participate in community activities mostly through their church, but nonetheless, contributing to the local area. Among the Eastern Europeans, the parents (who are stuggling to learn the language by going to evening classes) are immensely grateful to be here, and while the children claim they preferred their original homeland, they will certainly meld into this culture.

Who is it that we have a problem with? The Mexicans? Why? Well how about this, many are here illegally and therefore they have few rights that they can pursue for fear of being found out. In this situation, they tend to live together closely for protection from other groups that would attack and steal from them. Obviously it is wrong that they are here illegally, but that does not change the fact that they are here, and that they wish to remain safe from harm. When they live in these tight and quiet communities, is there any hope for them to integrate into out society? No. If you look at legal immigrants from Mexico, I bet that you will see a statistical difference in their integration.

Bottom line, stop blaming the Mexicans, blame the Americans who are giving them jobs illegally. They would not be coming here if they could not find work. It IS the government and greed that have allowed this illegal immigration. ALLOWED it. the WANT it. they WANT the average wage driven down so that all Americans make LESS money, so that they in turn make greater PROFITS. you people are FOOLS, everything that happens in this country happens for precise reasons directed by business. now you are watching smoke and fluff from the media, but NOTHING is going to change, NOTHING, because real wages keep falling as a whole, and that improves profit margins, and the ONLY thing, ONLY thing that matters to a TRUE AMERICAN is PROFIT.

I have met both kinds, the kind that want to turn America into Mexico and the kind that like many of our ancestors did, want to embrace America and live the American dream, their are bad apples everywhere, look at the demonstrations last year, i could really tell how American all of those people wanted to be waving their mexican flags, thats all you have to do to piss off a proud American, be an illegal alien demanding rights from a nation that you aren't even a citizen of?!?

Some are. Many, however, are not. You can tell which ones ARE patriotic, as they are the ones who try to learn the language, and become US citizens.
I had a Mexican friend when I lived in Oklahoma that had been in the country for six months, and had already learned quite a bit of English. He immersed himself in American music and American movies so he could learn. AND he worked two jobs so he could support himself and his brother. He completely destroyed several misconceptions that many have regarding Mexicans.

The Hispanics I know love this country and the opportunity that it gave them.
