38-26-38 would be a size 14 on the bust, size 10 on the waist and size 12 on the hips lol.
True measurements for a size 16 are 39-31-41 or 40-32-42, but even though this is stated in most sizing charts, the clothes always tend to come up big, so you think wow, I must be smaller. It is vanity sizing and is used to make the customer feel good, so they shop at that store again.
I have 39 1/2 inch hips, I should technically be a size 14, yet I have no trouble fitting into a size 12, even though size charts state a size 12 is 37-38 inches on the hips.
They need to either do away with clothes sizes and just state measurement or stick to the sizes they list the measurements for and stop messing the public around!
HTH : )

I have the same problem - I am 39-40" bust, 28-29" waist and hips are about 38". I can go to some shops and be a size 12, others a 14, 16 or an 18!! I find that in more "designer" type shops the bigger I need to go, whereas in other High Street places like New Look etc I can get a quite small-sized dress by comparison and it is fine. The dress sizes are all over the place these days - I agree it is really annoying!

Sizes aren't regulated anymore. You can be a 16 and go buy clothes at a retail store that say 14 or 18. It's the same thing for me. Just depends on the brand as to what "size" I wear. There was a segment on Today last week talking about just that. The thing was, they were talking about how a person that wore a 6 in 1983 could wear a 2 or a 4 now. I've found that most plus sizes can go either way. My friend is a size 10/11 and sometimes she can wear a size 10 jean and sometimes a 12 is snug.

38 back. B cup. Usually a girl with a 38 back will have a larger rib cage. She doesn't necessarily have to be overweight. I'm a 34 back and consider myself an average/slim build. The cup size of B is on the smaller scale, and the bigger the back size the smaller that cup is. For example- A girl who is a 34 B will look proportionately bigger than a girl who is a 38 B. To get an even comparison on the cup only: When you go up a back size, you come down a cup size, Example 2) If someone is wearing a 32 DD, the equivalent cup size in a 34 band would be a D. So yes, it's probably a small cup size. But it's hard to tell if the girl is overweight. As i said, she might just have a larger rib cage.

for men it is very simple. all their clothes are done completely based off their measurements. a size 34" x 32" pant is on with a 34" waist and length of 32". cut and dry simple.
With woman's clothing it is a crap shoot. i am generally a 12 in 90% of all stores, but there are some cases where I am 14. It just depends entirely on your measurements. It is good that you know your sizes. If I am shopping at a website or somewhere that I am not familiar with their sizing, I consult their sizing chart and then go from there. Beyond that there is no continuity. stores like J crew are converting slowly to the men's style of measurements with waist size for their jeans.
Woman's clothing sizing sucks.

Depends on the cut of the item. I believe the current sizing is based on measurements taken in the 1950's - my ... how we women have changed!!! I did read that someone somewhere is trying the change the sizing toreflect on the more rounded shape
of 21st century woman.
My mum-in-law is a retired tailoress and she told me that when she used to work in Berketex and Hardy Amies that if the clothes weren't cut to the correct size then the cloth was discarded and the cost could be taken from your wages!!
Nowadays it varies so much from shop/retailer to shop/retailer.
When mum-in-law goes out by habit she takes a tape measure and checks the same item in the same size. They can vary by up to 4 inches (and she loves Marks and Spencer and they are one of the main culprits!!)
