It stands for mega bits per second. With an internet connection the mbps states how fast your connection is. Obviously the higher the number Mbps the faster your connection and the quicker you will be able to download stuff. 2 Mbps is a reasonable speed there is faster but also a lot slower.
It usually refers to download speed. You may have a slower upload speed (Used to put things on the internet) but unless you put a lot of stuff on the net you need not worry about upload speed.
Hope this helps

2 Megabits (Million Bits) per second. A measurement of data transfer rate. How fast the data can move in one second. For example, 12 Mbps would be a transfer rate of 12 million bits in each second.

Mbps stands for millions of bits per second or megabits per second and is a measure of bandwidth (the total information flow over a given time) on a telecommunications medium. Depending on the medium and the transmission method, bandwidth is also sometimes measured in the Kbps (thousands of bits or kilobits per second) range or the Gbps (billions of bits or gigabits per second) range.

A megabit is a million binary pulses, or 1,000,000 (that is, 106) pulses (or "bits"). For example, a U.S. phone company T-carrier system line is said to sustain a data rate of 1.544 megabits per second. Megabits per second is usually shortened to Mbps.

2 mega bites per second. If this is your connection or download speed, that is considered slow. You might want to think about upgrading if it your connection speed. if it is your download speed you might want to close out some applications while you download.
